Gioula Papadopoulou, art director of Video Art Miden, has been invited as an official guest to Videonale, Bonn, via the “International Visitors Programme NRW“, the networking program of the cultural organization of North Rhine-Westphalia federal state.

The International Visitors Programme of NRW- KULTURsekretariat supports the regional artistic organizations, based on the belief that it is people and their ideas who develop and organise sustainable cultural dialogues and artistic collaboration. The International Visitors Programme provides financial, organisational as well as contextual assistance to support this aim. The international guests are proposed by organisers and cultural institutions within the cities and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as by international network partners, for the main part the Goethe-Institut’s representations abroad, along with embassies and other external cultural organisations.

Due to the covid measures, the visit to Videonale.18 activities and the participation in the networking meetings was virtual and took place online. Official guests included art directors and curators of various organizations from Argentina, Colombia, UK, Poland, Croatia, Turkey, Spain and Greece.

As a result of this netwoking,  Tasja Langenbach, artistic director of Videonale, and architect Ruth Lorenz, exhibition & interior designer who designs the Videonale exhibitions since 2013, were invited by Gioula Papadopoulou to present the history and the architectural evolution of Videonale at the New Media Lab, Department of Visual & Applied Arts, School of Fine Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, along with an online special tour at the exhibition of Videonale.18 for the students and the academic staff, on Friday, April 9, 2021 (10.00 CET, via ZOOM), with introduction & coordination by Gioula Papadopoulou.

Since it first took place in 1984, the VIDEONALE – Festival for Video and Time-Based Arts has been held every two years and soon became one of the most important festivals for video and time-based arts in Germany and Europe. Today it is one of the oldest and most historic active festivals in the field of video art in Europe and internationally. Since 2005 it has been held in the temporary exhibition spaces of the Kunstmuseum Bonn. The 18th edition of the festival takes place, both in physical space and online, on the theme FLUID STATES. SOLID MATTER.
